They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Students from more than 700 Chinese colleges have shown off their skills in a photography and micro-movie competition called "The Most Beautiful China".
Award-winning film "Impression Pinnacle" is directed by Tsering Tenta. It's about China's first college mountaineering team to conquer Mount Qomolangma, the highest peak on the planet. The team from China University of Geosciences is severely tested by extreme weather and injuries. They make it to the top on May 19th, 2012.
Jury member Lu Yan said, "I think the imagination of young people is both big and bold. Film technology is helping them to express their imagination."
"Dream of Nanyin" tells the story of how a young boy's mind changed as he encountered "nanyin" , one of the oldest melodies of China. The hero undergoes a leap in attitude, from misunderstanding to devotion.
Chen Jing, director of "Dream of Nanyin" said, "'Nanyin' is the most beautiful sound to me. It's the sound of my hometown and is also the part of the most beautiful China."
Although student works may lack professional polish, they reflect a sincere heart and creative mind. "Slow Down, My Horse" is a documentary micro-movie. It reflects on the hot issue of rural education through the true life story of village teacher Fan Meisuo.
Li Yizhong, film & TV department chair of Shanghai Jiaotong University, said, "We advocate students to focus on people and issues outside campus, to pay attention to the silent and hidden beauty. Staying real and live can help the quality and quantity of the micro movies."
The 30 award-winning micro movies will be published on platform of new media and mobile phones. Pay viewers can watch online and download. And the creators can get 20 percent of the box office.
