Young swimmer crowns without cap at Chinese national championships

Wang Putong from Chinese Navy touched the wall first without a swimming cap in the men's 200m butterfly, on the third day of Chinese national swimming championships.

The 19-year-old Wang was striving for victory in the pool when his cap fell off. In spite of the distraction, Wang still won the gold in 1:59.45.

"It definitely had impact, but not much," said Wang, "I only needed to focus on the match,"

Olympic gold winner Ye shiwen failed to enter the final in 1:12.75 at the women's 100m breaststroke, while the gold went to He Yun from Shaanxi.

In the men's 400m individual medley, Shi Yi from Zhejiang claimed the gold in 4:20.90, while his teammate Xu Jiayu won the men's 50m backstroke.

Sun Mengyue from Chinese Navy took her third gold in the women's 100m butterfly at the championships, and Jiangsu girl Shen Duo also grabbed a second gold in the women's 200m freestyle.

The gold of the men's 4x100m freestyle went to Zhejiang Team, who has dominated all the relay races so far.

A total of 304 swimmers from all over China are competing in about 40 events of the championships from Oct. 25-29.
