DALIAN, China, July 28 (Xinhua) -- China's tennis star Peng Shuai won her second gold at the Chinese National Games as she partnered long-time friend Li Zhe to claim the mixed doubles trophy here on Sunday.
It came one month after Peng led Tianjin team to the women's team gold at the quadrennial event, which will open on August 31.
The competition schedule for tennis was revised and is held ahead of the offcial opening, with aim of giving way to the US Open starting from Aug. 26.
Peng, who has just won the Wimbledon women's doubles title early this month, seemed to have no trouble with Li in beating their opponents Zhou Yimiao/Wu Di of Shanghai in the final, needing just one hour and 20 minutes to wrap up the 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The Tianjin duo, also the defending champions from last National Games, were in a class of their own in the event as they did not drop a single set en route to the win.
"I was so tired at the end of the match, but I told myself that I must hang up there and at last I made it," said Peng, who has to also battle in women's singles and doubles and compete at least two matches each day.
The Chinese number two, who seems to reach top form recently, has compiled a 15-match winning streak, including Wimbledon doubles event and the Chinese National Games tennis events.
The 27-year-old is defending champion in women's team, singles and doubles and mixed doubles, and now she will need just three more matches to complete the feat of defending all of titles as she has reached women's doubles final and women's singles last four.
The 12th Chinese National Games will start in north China's Liaoning Province on Aug. 31 through to Sept. 12.
