BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Air China on Tuesday announced its launch of a service from Beijing to Geneva, marking the first direct route from Asia to the Swiss city.

The new route will further promote economic and cultural exchanges between the two cities, said Fan Cheng, general secretary of Air China's Party committee.

It will also provide more convenience for transit passengers from Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Manila, the company said.

Air China is China's largest airline offering flights to Europe, with 12 European cities as destinations including London, Paris, Frankfurt, Rome and Madrid.
