TOKYO, May 5 -- A 6.0-magnitude earthquake shook off the coast of Tokyo on Monday morning, leaving 17 people injured as of press time.

According to local police and firefighters, the injured people are from Tokyo, Kanagawa and other prefectures in the Tokyo metropolitan area due to the 5:18 a.m. (2018 GMT Sunday) quake.

The epicenter was detected at 35.0 degrees north latitude and 139.4 degrees east longitude near Izu-Oshima Island in the Pacific Ocean some 120 km south of Tokyo, with a depth of 162 km, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

It revised the estimated magnitude from an earlier announced 6. 2.
