HANOI, Oct. 12 -- At least 20 people were killed in a fireworks factory explosion in Vietnam's northern province of Phu Tho on Saturday, reported local Youth daily website.
According to Nguyen Van Tuan, head of emergency department at Phu Tho hospital, over 200 injured people have been sent to the hospital, most of them with severe burn.
Meanwhile, many houses within a radius of one km from the explosion were damaged.
According to reports, at 7:55 a.m. local time, consecutive explosions were heard from the fireworks factory in Thanh Ba distrist of Phu Tho province, some 90 km from capital Hanoi.
Le Quang Dai, chief of Phu Tho provincial military headquarters, said the explosion broke out at Factory 4 of the Z121 Plant under the Industrial Defense Department of the Ministry of National Defense.
At present, relevant authorities are trying to search and rescue survivors and control the fire.
