BEIRUT, Sept. 23 -- Investigations showed that " Takfiris" affiliated with the Syrian opposition were behind a car bomb attack near the Lebanese capital of Beirut last month, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said Monday.

A booby-trapped car exploded in the Roueiss neighborhood of the southern suburb of Beirut on Aug. 15, leaving 25 people killed and more than 336 others injured.

In a televised speech, Nasrallah said that "we have reached conclusive results, as promised. It is a Takfiri group working within the framework of the Syrian opposition and located on Syrian soil."

"I think that Lebanese official security forces have reached the same conclusion," Nasrallah added.

Also on Monday, Lebanon's security forces began to be deployed in southern suburbs of Beirut to replace the "civilian" checkpoints, previously installed by Hezbollah as the state had been "unable to provide such security."

In response to the latest move by the security apparatus, the Hezbollah chief said that state authorities should shoulder security responsibility, "We welcome this step and greatly appreciate this national decision taken by state officials."
