A provincial judge was killed Tuesday in a drive-by shooting in western Afghanistan's Herat province, police said.
"Sayed Ahmad Khaliqi was killed near his residence by two gunmen riding a motorcycle. The incident happened in Baba Hajji neighborhood of the provincial capital Herat city, 640 km west of national capital Kabul, at around midday," head of provincial criminal investigation department Lieutenant Colonel Israheel Khan told Xinhua.
Khaliqi was serving in the provincial special Corruption Court, he said, adding a manhunt was underway to locate and capture the fled attackers.
No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack, but the Taliban routinely claim responsibility for such attacks.
Up to 312 civilians were killed and 131 were wounded in targeted killings across Afghanistan in the first half of the year, official sources confirmed.
