RIYADH, July 10, (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia has announced a comprehensive security plan to deal with a large influx of pilgrims to Mecca expected during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Elaph e-paper reported Wednesday.
The plan takes into consideration possible stampedes at the grand mosque in Mecca and some ongoing expansion projects in the area, Maeedg Al Jaeed, a commander of special security forces, told the newspaper.
He added an additional 14,500 security members, who speak foreign languages as well as sign language, have been deployed across Mecca, bringing the total number of security members to about 31,000.
