LAGOS, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A Spanish Navy ship MV Rayo on Wednesday departed the shores of Nigeria through the commercial city of Lagos and proceeded to Dakar, capital of Senegal, according to the authorities of the Nigerian Navy.
The ship, which arrived in Nigeria on Sunday, left the West African country with four Nigerian Navy personnel who are expected to put in practice what they learnt from their Spanish counterparts during the visit.
"The visit was to the Western Naval Command and it was fruitful to both navies," said a statement made available to Xinhua on Thursday.
The statement, signed by spokesperson of the Western Naval Command Lt.-Cdr. Jerry Omodara, said the Nigerians will return from Senegal later in the month.
Upon its arrival in Lagos, the Spanish ship was received at midstream by Adoni, a Nigerian Navy ship which escorted the visiting ship to berth at the Naval Base in Apapa, the statement explained.
Nigerian navy personnel were trained by the Spanish counterparts on maneuvering techniques, damage control and fire fighting on board, it added.
Accommodating 75 navy personnel on board, including 11 officers, the MV Rayo has a 2,600-ton displacement Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) with 95 meters length, 14 meters breadth and five meters draught.
