ISLAMABAD, May 7 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and 35 others were injured as a bomb hit a political gathering in Pakistan's northwest Hangu District Tuesday afternoon, local politicians said.
A bomb went off at the political rally of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam- Fazl (JUI-F) when it was passing by the main market of Hangu, JUI- F spokesperson said.
Earlier reports said that a suicide bomber carried out the attack, but later Deputy Police Officer Sajjad Khan confirmed that the bomb was detonated by a remote control device and explosive materials were fixed in a motorbike parked in the market area where the rally was passing.
The injured people, including school kids, were shifted to Hangu Hospital where several of them were reportedly in critical condition.
This is the second attack on JUI-F's political gathering within the last 24 hours. Earlier on Monday, 24 people were killed and 47 others injured when a bomb hit the party's rally in Kurram tribal area of the country.
The incident happened at about 1:10 p.m. in Doaba Market area of Hangu, a main town in the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
JUI-F is an Islamist and religious conservative party mainly active in the country's northwest part.
