BEIRUT, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Residents of Lebanese northern border town Arida blocked a main crossing road leading to Syria on Monday, after shells from Syria during overnight clashes between rebels and government troops reached the town.
The residents erected a huge tent and blocked the road that connects the northern Lebanese coast with Syria, the state-run National News Agency reported.
They asked the Lebanese army to protect their town, and warned that their protest will be open-ended, the report said.
The protest came after shells from Syria damaged several houses and a mosque in the town.
The Syrian shelling also targeted several other Lebanese border villages.
Last week, dozens of protesters cut off roads at the border crossings of Arida and Abboudiyeh, to prevent fuel tanker trucks from crossing into Syria.
