How important are you at a time of global layoffs? Maybe you are absolutely negligible.
Hasbro, the second largest toy manufacturer in the U.S., saw its revenues in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2012 were below market expectations last Friday, and planned to lay off about 10 percent employees and merge some factories to cut expenses.
U.S. company Dow Corning announced recently that it would axe 500 employees within ensuing weeks in response to the global economic recession. If you consider the above layoffs lists insufficient, you can add as many prestigious companies as you want, such as Hostess Brands, AMR Group, Citibank, HSBC, and Pepsi.
In addition to the above-mentioned global enterprises, Chinese companies, ranging from household appliances, textiles, machinery to the photovoltaic industry, including Midea, BYD, Sany Heavy Industry, and ZTE, encountered the layoffs plight as well. At present, competitive layoffs are taking place not only in China, but in many other companies around the world covering every sector, such as the highly profitable banking and the severely loss-making photovoltaic industry.
Every piece of layoffs-related information above points to the fact that the global economy remains weak, and that downsizing remains the single most reliable, controllable and practical remedy for corporation costs. What is really uppermost for companies when they are at a loss in the face of falling profitability is how to survive.
What can you do as a talent when layoffs emerge as the norm?
First, you should continue to be hard-working and conscientious in order to bring more profits and reduce burdens for your corporations.
Second, maintain good interpersonal relationship so that your superiors will not put you on the layoff list in case of layoff.
Third, acquire more knowledge and techniques to make you more competent in order to facilitate reemployment when you are made redundant unluckily. Of course, nothing is more important than embracing a positive philosophy of life and maintaining good health. With them, you will be hopeless if fired.
