CAIRO, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The death toll rose to five in clashes between police officers and relatives of a murdered citizen outside a police station in Egypt's Qalioubiya Governorate with 12 others injured, Health Ministry spokesman Ahmed Omar told Xinhua on Sunday.

Omar added that three bodies were kept at the morgue of Nasser Hospital and the other two were received by their families.

The 12 injured people were taken to nearby Bahteem and Nasser hospitals.

The clashes erupted after a citizen was mistakenly shot dead by a police officer in an operation on Saturday. The victim's furious relatives protested outside the police station and vowed to retaliate for their deceased, according to state-run Al-Ahram online.

The five people killed in the clashes included two officers and one conscript, and the police then intensified security measures around the police station with armored vehicles in case of any further attacks, Al-Ahram added.
