Located about 70 kilometers northwest of Xi'an, Zhaoling Mausoleum is the burial site of Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty.

Covering an area of 87.5 square miles, Zhaoling has 190 subordinate tombs for royal family members and high-ranking officials and is said to be the largest royal mausoleum in the world. It took 107 years to construct the mausoleum and a large number of cultural relics have been discovered there, including epitaphs, pottery figures and murals. Through these invaluable items, visitors can get to know the lifestyles as well cultural and art development of the Tang Murals.

As an open-minded ruler, Emperor Taizong made a great contribution to increasing China's cultural and commercial exchanges with other countries and during his reign, the famous trade route Silk Road witnessed further development.
