China’s first nuclear emergency publicity week kicked off on July 3 with the theme “Build nuclear security defense line, promote the scientific development of China’s nuclear industry.” A reporter with People’s Daily Online paid a visit to Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong province to learn about the daily operation of China’s nuclear industry.

Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base, located in eastern Shenzhen, has six generating units with a total installed capacity of 6.1 million kilowatts. Since the power station entered into operation in 1994, it has been running safely for 19 years.

Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station has an emergency response team consisting of experts from various fields: equipment maintenance, technical analysis, radiological protection, communications, healthcare, security and logistical support. The team is on call 24 hours a day, according to Zhao Fuming, deputy chief engineer of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station.
