Koizumi Plans to Visit Yasukuni Shrine Every Year

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said Tuesday he planned to visit a controversial war shrine every year, a move likely to anger Asian neighbours already upset by his earlier visits.
Mr Koizumi has visited Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine, seen by critics as a symbol of the country's past militarism, three times as prime minister. His latest visit was two weeks ago.
The shrine is dedicated to Japan's 2.5 million military war dead since 1853, including several convicted war criminals.
'There is no change in my feelings to visit every year,' he told a parliamentary committee.
He has said that he visits the shrine to pay respect to those who died in wars and to vow not to stage a war again.
