China is expected to become one of the world's leading air transport markets in 20 years, a Chinese academic report predicted.
Professor Hu Naiwu, the author of the report, of the People's University of China, quoted a forecast by the Boeing Company by saying that China's air transport would grow at an annual rate of 8.1 percent in the next 20 years, almost double the world average growth rate.
But, Hu said, the scale of China's cargo transport was inconsistent with its status as the leading transporter. The volume of China's cargo made up only 1.9 percent of the world's total, compared with 7.7 percent for Japan and 7.2 percent for theRepublic of Korea.
He suggested China's air transport sector should look for new sources of goods, raise its transport capacity and improve ground facilities.
