The Beijing Capital International Airport saw big rise in the volume of both cargo and passenger transported last year, with the cargo growth rate reaching 8 percent over the same period of the previous year, ranking 28th in the world, the figure was based on the data released by the Airport Council International (ACI).
This is the first time the Airport enters world top 30 in term of cargo volume handled. Its passenger volume also rose from world 42nd in 2000 to the 33rd last year, while the ranking was only 51st in 1999.
It is reported that most airports worldwide currently assume a downward trend in the volume of passenger traffic. Even if an increase is registered, the growth rate most likely stands at one digit. It is worth mentioning that in 2001 Beijing Airport achieved a passenger growth rate of 13 percent, making it the only one among the world top 50 airports, that increased at a two-digit rate.
