A Beijing court Thursday sentenced a former financial official of Air China to death for embezzling public money.
Yang Ning, former deputy head of the financial section of China's flag-carrier airlines, was found guilty of embezzling more than 26 million yuan (3.13 million U.S. dollars) of public fund, the Beijing No. 2 People's Court said Thursday.
According to the court, Yang pocketed 24.29 million yuan of public money between April 1992 and January 1995. In June 1993, he lent another two million yuan of public money to a local company under his financial supervision, but the money has never been returned.
Under the court ruling, Yang also has his political rights deprived for life and all his personal property confiscated.
