Leisure beyond one’s imagination: A snapshot of the wandering elephant herd returning to their habitat

Since the herd of 14 Asian elephants returned to Mojiang County of Pu'er City, southwest China's Yunnan Province, their movements have been closely followed by the public. On August 17, the herd was discovered having a nap nestled together head-over-head in the forest, offering up a lovely and adorable picture.

Yunnan snub-nosed monkey born in SW China nature reserve

A Yunnan snub-nosed monkey was born in Xiangguqing at the Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve in Deqin county, southwest China’s Yunnan province, on Aug. 20, which brings the total number of monkeys in a troupe named “Erji” to seven.

Rare grass species discovered in SW China

A group of wild Spodiopogon sagittifolius Rendle, a rare grass species, was spotted in Yimen county, southwest China’s Yunnan province in August, according to the Yunnan Academy of Forestry and Grassland. Researchers from the institute found about 300 individual plants of the species during a recent field survey.

A visit to the nature reserve home to the country’s largest eco-system of hsienmu trees

The Gulinqing Nature Reserve, located at an elevation of between 160 and 2,028.4 meters above sea level in Maguan county, southwest China’s Yunnan province, is home to China’s largest and best preserved eco-system of hsienmu trees.
