National security legislation for HKSAR won't affect its high autonomy

HONG KONG, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The draft decision of China's top legislature to introduce national security legislation for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will not affect HKSAR's high degree of autonomy, analysts said. On the contrary, the legislation will serve as institutional reinforcement of the "one country, two systems" principle, safeguard the rule of law and a stable business environment in Hong Kong, and protect the well-being of the vast majority of Hong Kong residents once it fixes the loopholes in national security, according to analysts.

Chinese leaders deliberate, discuss draft civil code

BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the state Sunday joined lawmakers and political advisors in deliberating and discussing a draft civil code at the annual sessions of the national legislature and top political advisory body. The compilation of the civil code is an important component of the deployment of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core for advancing the rule of law, they said.

HKSAR gov't condemns violence, supports police to take resolute enforcement actions

HONG KONG, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has strongly condemned rioters' unlawful assemblies and violent illegal acts in the vicinity of Causeway Bay and Wan Chai on Sunday, and supported the police to take resolute enforcement actions. The rioters' acts ranged from dismantling railings, trashing traffic lights to prying up drainage covers and bricks and assaulting people with different views.
