People’s Congress. In 2016, Guangzhou Municipal People’s Congress and its standing committee examined a total of 101 issues, appointed and dismissed government officials for 196 person-times, organized a total of 13,260 person-times of delegates on different levels to visit local communities, received 6,829 person-times of visits from the people; collected and handled 7,600 pieces of opinions and suggestions from the people and helped to tackle a lot of issues of which the people are very concerned.
Creating Civilized City In 2016, Guangzhou carried forward the creation of civilized city, the cultivation of the citizen’s high ideological and moral standards, the nurturing of the new fashion of civilized society and the establishment of a new front online for civilized conduct, further improving the moral standards of the citizens and the civilization of the city. Guangzhou’s effort to create a National Civilized City was supported by 99.
Trade Union In 2016, the city’s grassroots trade unions increased to 41,000, covering 156,600 units and boasting 4,449,800 members, up 3.92% over the year before.
Cultural Activities As of the end of 2016, the city boasted 3 first class cultural institutions and museums as well as 61 second and third class cultural institutions and museums. Municipal museums held exhibitions at the grassroots level for 170 times and local residents visited the museums for free for 4.
