Trade Union
In 2016, the city’s grassroots trade unions increased to 41,000, covering 156,600 units and boasting 4,449,800 members, up 3.92% over the year before. The trade unions and their members played a leading role in such activities as technological innovation and work competition, thus strongly promoting the healthy development of Guangzhou’s economic and social development.
The Youth
In 2016, Guangzhou had 22,330 grassroot youth league organizations and 407,300 members, up 101 and 9,850 over the year before, respectively. The youth league organizations on all levels organized and participated in various activities to handle consultations and help the young people for 17,453 persons (times); kicked off over 110 activities (times); organized 1,932 innovation and business-starting projects to take part in youth
The Memorial Square of the Inaugural Session of the CCYL (Chinese Communist Youth League) National Congress. The Inaugural Session of the National Congress of the Chinese Socialist Youth League (the predecessor of the CCYL) was held in Dongyuan, Guangzhou on 5 May, 1922. The Session marked a key milestone in the history of China youth movement by realizing the thought and organizational unity of CCYL,
Volunteer Service
In 2016, Guangzhou pushed forward the development of the “City of Volunteers” steadily. The city was home to 1.37 million registered volunteers and 54,000 “Internet Civilization” volunteers in the same year, contributing 20.27 million hours of service. The “Guangzhou Mode” of volunteer service was gradually taking into shape, being promoted nationwide. The city also successfully held the sixth Guangzhou Fair on Volunteer Service, boosting the establishment and consummation of the “ecosphere” of Guangzhou’s volunteer services.
Maternal and Child Care
In 2016, local authorities vigorously guided women and children to uphold and put into practice the socialist core value and spared no efforts to implement the “Hongmian Ruili” women’s business-starting development plan, launch the “Harmony Brings Prosperity” women’s legal rights safeguarding project and lead the move to establish nurseries in public places, centering on the campaign to create the family work brandname of “Model Families in the Flower City”. The city saw 4 new National Advanced Units for Women’s Publicity and Opinion Front Construction and 2 new March 8th Red Flaggers while nurturing and promoting 2 of the first batch of national civilized families and 4 of the national most civilized families for the first session of the event, 1 National Model Wuhao Civilized Family and 2 National Wuhao Civilized Families.
