Self-plowing Field refers to the filed plowed by Zhuge Liang when he was leading a reclusive life in Longzhong. In general sense, it refers to 20 mu of field around Dragon Cave. What Zhuge Liang mentioned in lines of “I am a common people, leading a farmer life in Nanyang” is exactly this place. Zhao Hong’en, Inspector to Hubei Northwest Area, made an inventory of the house estates and fields belonging to Zhuge Liang in Longzhong in the 59th Year under the Reign of Emperor Kangxi and publicized the results on the stele. According to it, there are 116 mu of fields reserved by Zhuge Liang for farm purpose, and 20 mu of land located in front of house estate. In the middle of the pavilion stands a stele reading: “Self-plowing Field”, an inscription left by Liu Huaqing, former Vice President of the Military Commission of the CCCP of China, when he visited the tourist attraction in 2002. Now, the Self-plowing Field is boomed with various plants and followers, adding beauty and grace to the site.
