Pudacuo National Park is located in Shangri-La County,Yunnan. The park was announced on June 25, 2007, and is notable as the first national park in China to meet International Union for Conservation of Nature standards. It incorporates the Bita Lake Nature Reserve and the Duhu Scenic Area in the Hongshan region. As such they are part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas World Heritage Site. It is about 22 kilometers east from Shangri-la county seat and covers the total area of 1313 square km with a total area of approximately 300 Square kilometers.
The park is in Northwestern Yunnan Province’s alpine cold temperate coniferous forest vegetation zones, and the highest point of it is in the northern peak of Militang Mountain, 4159 meters above sea level. The lowest point is Gold Ditch, in the east of the Bita Lake, 3200 meters above sea level, with the relative elevation of 959 meters. As an inseparable part of the Three Parallel Rivers-a world natural heritage by UNESCO, Pudacuo Park also functions as a natural reserve. The eco environment is well preserved with marsh, lakes, virgin forests, brooks, springs, and rare fauna and flora resources.
