In September 2012, the Ancient Pu'er Tea Garden and Tea Culture System were included as a pilot protection area in GIAHS by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). In June 2012, the Ancient Tea Garden on the Jingmai Mountain passed the on-site assessment by the heritage experts from the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and entered the tentative list of the Chinese World Cultural Heritage in November. In May 2013, the Ancient Tea Garden on the Jingmai Mountain in Pu'er was listed by the State Council into the seventh group of Key Cultural Relic Unit under State Protection and thus won the "entrance ticket" to the application for the World Cultural Heritage.
"Currently, the application has achieved initial success," said Wei Xing. He also said that from January 3 to 5 this year, Pu'er Municipal Administration of Cultural Relics and Yunnan Provincial Administration of Cultural Relics jointly held a seminar to review the application documents and protection drafts, during which two versions of the documents passed their appraisal. Currently, the official bilingual application documents (English and Chinese) are being improved in accordance with the suggestions from the experts on the seminar. It has been made sure that the documents will be submitted to the State Administration of Cultural Heritage by the end of March this year, and it is highly anticipated that the tea garden will be listed as one World Cultural Heritage site soon.
