The parliament approved on Dec. 10, 2013 a law that made Uruguay the first country in the world on having a legal cannabis market, from its crop to its sale, that will be in pharmacies. According to the law, each person interested, and previously registered, could buy an amount of 40 grams of marihuana per month, and the law allows the possibility of a personal crop up to six plants per family and 480 grams of harvest yearly. Since its approval, the 120 days that the Government has to regulate this law and to define the essential issues that have not been processed on the legal text have passed. (Xinhua/Nicolas Celaya) |
