February 19, 2014 is the 17th death anniversary of late leader Deng Xiaoping. People's Daily Online selects a group of precious old photos of Deng to commemorate his legendary life.
"I have a clear conscience all my life," Deng said in an interview with Italian correspondent Oriana Fallaci on August 21, 1980. Deng pointed at Fallaci’s pen and said, "Please mark my words: I have made quite a few mistakes, and I have my own share of responsibility for some of the mistakes made by Comrade Mao Zedong. But it can be said that I made my mistake with good intentions. There is nobody who doesn't make mistakes."
