Pu'er has been growing coffee trees for more than a century, and from 1988, coffee trees were subject to industrialization and large-scale cultivation. In recent years, with a fast development momentum of the coffee industry in Pu'er and the further improvement of the international brand position of Pu'er coffee, Pu'er has become a main coffee production region and a major coffee trade center with the largest planting area, the highest output and the greatest quality in China, thus obtaining the honorary title of the "Coffee Capital".
Coffee places high requirements on natural conditions in terms of its growth. Thanks to its special geographic, climatic and ecological environments, Pu'er produces small-granular coffee (Arabica) of great quality and with a unique flavor. Pu'er coffee is certified as Class A products by ICO for its excellent internal quality. The Limited Edition coffee launched by NESCAFE also took Pu'er coffee beans as its raw materials. In 2006, the Specialty Coffee Association of America released the comparative results of Pu'er coffee and Colombian coffee for three consecutive years, according to which Pu'er coffee obtained a comprehensive score of 88.75, higher than 85.88, the score of Colombian coffee. In January 2012, Jeremy Wakeford, Chief Coffee Quality Appreciation Expert from Starbucks, marked a score as high as 81.5 for "Pu'er coffee". With outstanding quality, Pu'er coffee enjoys unique and competitive advantages in both Chinese and international markets.
