Many countries, including China, have their own versions of these hit talent shows. "The Voice of China" debuted in 2011 and became a smash hit immediately.
However, singing competitions go back much further in China. In 2004, Hunan satellite TV’s "Super Girl" series, followed by "Super Boy" in 2007, caused a big buzz in show business.
But the most prestigious is the "China Youth Singing Competition" held by China Central Television. Initiated in 1984, it has become a top platform for aspiring talents from around the country.
In 2013, the singing competition craze is showing no signs of slowing down, as various talent shows continue to fight for viewers.
Love them or hate them, reality talent shows are now a staple of television. And it seems they will be for a long time to come.
