Falkirk Wheel (Scotland)
The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland. It connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. The lift was opened to the public in 2002.
The wheel has an overall diameter of 35 meters and consists of two opposing arms which extend 15 meters beyond the central axle. Two sets of these axe-shaped arms are attached about 35 meters apart to a 3.5 meters diameter axle.
The Falkirk Wheel cost 17.5 million pounds and the restoration project as a whole cost 84.5 million pounds.
