According to the Confucius Diet in Shandong, Laba porridge consists of coix seed rice, dried longan, lotus seeds, lily roots, chestnuts, Chinese dates and rice. After the porridge is put in a bowl, some fruits carved into different shapes are added for decoration.
Sichuan boasts a large geographic area and thus has different ways of cooking Laba porridge. Most people in rural areas prefer salty porridge made of soybeans, peanuts, chopped pork, white turnips and carrots.
