China's Wen advances, Wang exits at WTT Champions Frankfurt
BERLIN, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's Wen Ruibo advanced to the men's singles round of 16, while compatriot Wang Yidi suffered a first-round exit at WTT Champions Frankfurt on Wednesday.
World No. 14 Wen defeated South Korea's An Jae-hyun 11-5, 11-6, 11-3. The Chinese player conceded just 14 points across three games to set up a round-of-16 clash with compatriot Wang Chuqin.
"An is a strong opponent. I made full preparations for this match and had good communication with my coach. No matter how many points I trailed by, I just fought point by point," said Wen.
Women's third seed Wang lost in straight games to Germany's world No. 16 Han Ying, 11-8, 12-10, 11-4.
Wang pushed Han to deuce in the second game but was unable to level the match. Han then pulled away in the third to complete the victory.
Han's victory was part of a strong day for the hosts, with Annett Kaufmann, Sabine Winter and Nina Mittelham also advancing to the women's round of 16.
Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov also progressed in the men's competition, overcoming Egypt's Omar Assar 3-1.
Elsewhere, South Korea's Lim Jong-hoon rallied from two games down to beat Sweden's Anton Kallberg in five games.
