AI-focused Confucius Institute to advance Zambia-China cooperation
LUSAKA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The artificial intelligence (AI)-focused Confucius Institute in Zambia will propel technological cooperation between Zambia and China, said the Zambia China Old Students Association (ZACOSA) on Wednesday.
The AI-focused Confucius Institute at Mulungushi University, which was established in Zambia's Central Province on Monday, also marks the first AI-focused Confucius Institute in Africa.
ZACOSA President Kingsley Kalusha said the initiative marked a milestone in technological advancement and academic cooperation between China and Zambia.
"With fast-moving trends in AI and its growing adoption, this partnership will help build local capacity and advance technology localization for development," Kalusha said.
Kalusha told Xinhua that ZACOSA welcomed the partnership's focus on development, capacity building and talent exchanges, adding that the initiative would help students meet the demands of an increasingly technology-driven world.
He said Zambia could benefit from China's advances in AI to accelerate the adoption and application of the technology locally.
The partnership also highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation in delivering tangible benefits to the people of both countries, he added.
ZACOSA is an organization of Zambian graduates who studied in China, focusing on promoting educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
