Photo exhibition in Tanzania marks 81st anniversary of Taiwan's restoration
DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- A photo exhibition commemorating the 81st anniversary of Taiwan's restoration was held in Tanzania's commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, on Saturday, highlighting historical ties and China's position on national reunification.
Organized by Xinhua News Agency Africa Regional Bureau in partnership with several organizations, the exhibition features four thematic sections and more than 30 photos under the theme "Remembering Taiwan's Restoration, Advancing National Reunification."
Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian said Taiwan's restoration was a great victory achieved through the joint efforts of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. It was a major outcome of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
It was also a major historical event marking the restoration of the Chinese government's exercise of sovereignty over Taiwan, and an important link in the legal and historical basis for Taiwan being an inalienable part of China, she added.
Feng Zhenyu, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification in Tanzania, said commemorating Taiwan's restoration is an opportunity to remember the hard-won peace and reflect on the event's historical significance.
Joseph Kahama, secretary-general of the Tanzania-China Friendship Promotion Association, said the exhibition demonstrated the importance of preserving historical records for future generations.
He said the exhibition offered lessons for Tanzania on documenting history and expressed support for China's position on reunification.
