Hong Kong's CPI up in September
HONG KONG, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's overall consumer prices rose 1.9 percent year-on-year in September, the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said on Thursday.
Netting out the effects of all the HKSAR government's one-off relief measures, the year-on-year rate of increase in the composite consumer price index (CPI) in September was 2.1 percent, higher than that in August 2026.
A spokesman for the HKSAR government said that while faster price increases were seen in fuel-related items, price increases of other components were largely modest, keeping overall inflation at a moderate level.
Looking ahead, consumer price inflation will remain under upward pressure, as persistently elevated international oil prices feed through to fuel-related components amid ongoing geopolitical tension in the Middle East. However, as price pressures on other fronts are expected to remain largely contained, overall inflation should stay moderate, the spokesman added.
