China Coast Guard monitors latest Philippine resupply activity at Ren'ai Jiao
BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- With approval from the Chinese side, the Philippines on Wednesday delivered living necessities to its ship that is illegally "grounded" at China's Ren'ai Jiao, according to a China Coast Guard (CCG) spokesperson.
The CCG inquired and verified the Philippine vessel conducting the delivery, and monitored the entire process, spokesperson Jiang Lue said in a statement.
The CCG will continue to conduct law-enforcement and rights-protection operations in China's Nansha Qundao and its adjacent waters, including Ren'ai Jiao, in accordance with the law, he said.
Ren'ai Jiao is part of China's Nansha Qundao. China and the Philippines have previously reached a provisional arrangement on the humanitarian resupply of living necessities for handling the situation at Ren'ai Jiao.
In May 1999, the Philippines "grounded" the tank-landing ship BRP Sierra Madre (LT-57) at Ren'ai Jiao. Despite Manila's repeated promise to tow it away, the ship has remained there for over 27 years.
