CAIRO, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi on Monday spoke highly of the four principles proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping on the constructive participation of relevant parties in the resolution of African hotspot issues.

The principles set an important framework for promoting political and peaceful solutions to conflicts, upholding peace and stability, and strengthening cooperation among countries of the Global South, and help promote regional and international security and stability, Al-Yamahi said in a statement issued by the parliament.

Al-Yamahi said the principles reflect a balanced vision for addressing crises and affirm that sustainable solutions cannot be achieved through force or escalation of tensions, but through constructive dialogue, mutual understanding and respect for international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

He said that the four principles provide a solid foundation for enhancing cooperation and solidarity among countries of the Global South, pooling efforts to address common challenges and promoting a fairer and more balanced international order.

The senior Arab official stressed that African people managing their own affairs and determining their priorities is essential to ensuring the effectiveness of conflict-resolution efforts.

Such an approach takes into account the specific circumstances of the African continent, leverages the role of national and regional institutions in containing conflicts and preventing their escalation, and opens up broader prospects for comprehensive and sustainable development, he added.

Achieving lasting peace requires addressing the root causes of crises rather than merely containing their consequences, Al-Yamahi said, stressing the need to intensify international efforts to support development as one of the most important guarantees for consolidating stability and preventing the recurrence of conflicts.

On Oct. 13, Xi proposed the four principles during a meeting in Beijing with Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, president of the Council of Ministers of Togo, who was on an official visit to China.

The principles are adhering to African leadership in resolving such issues, upholding fairness and justice, promoting ceasing hostilities for peace, and addressing both symptoms and root causes.
