5.8-magnitude earthquake hits southwest Japan

TOKYO, July 29 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 rocked Japan's southwestern prefecture of Kumamoto on Wednesday evening, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The same region experienced a powerful magnitude-7.1 quake the previous day, which left 12 dead and 6 in cardiac arrest, according to the prefectural government.
