More people in Taiwan envision prospect after reunification: spokesperson
BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- An increasing number of people in Taiwan have been discussing details of a "one country, two systems" solution to the Taiwan question, and are looking ahead to the prospect of the island after reunification, a mainland spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Zhang Han, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks at a press conference in response to a media query citing a recent poll indicating that nearly one-fourth of people on the island accept "one country, two systems."
Zhang said that reunification is an unstoppable historical trend, and that peaceful reunification and "one country, two systems" are most favorable to people across the Taiwan Strait and the Chinese nation.
She added that more people in Taiwan have realized that peaceful reunification would create tremendous opportunities for the island's economic and social development, and deliver tangible benefits to its people.
