'Village Super League' held on snow in Shenyang, NE China's Liaoning

The third Village Super League, a football event affectionately known as "Cun Chao," was held at a snow and ice park in Shenbei New District, Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province. Made up of farmers, village officials, rural doctors and others, the participating teams brought energy and excitement to the winter season.

Zhang Chi, deputy director of the district's culture and tourism bureau, said that more than 100 teams had signed up for the event, including teams from other provinces such as Fujian in southeast China and Anhui in east China. The event also attracted more than 10 sponsors.

Han Qingyu, Party chief of Xinmin village, said the turnout for the event was so overwhelming that they had to form two teams to ensure everyone could take part.

During the last session, the snow and ice park drew 150,000 visits, boosting sales of local specialty agricultural products and bringing a surge of customers to nearby restaurants.

Playing on snow tests both strength and balance, yet locals remain passionate about the Village Super League. In Liaoning, local football teams have achieved remarkable success in competitions, and enthusiasm for the sport has never been in short supply.

Traditional games like ice tug-of-war have also taught people to move confidently and race across snow and ice, turning the frozen fields into a lively playground for skill, balance, and fun.
