China updates green product rules to tighten oversight
BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- China has revised its regulations on green product certification and labeling, marking a significant shift from managing labels alone to supervising the entire certification chain, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) said Sunday.
The revised measures uphold the principles of unified product catalogs, evaluation standards, certification rules, and labels. Focusing on whole-process supervision, the regulations establish a tiered management system.
Detailed provisions have also been introduced regarding the implementation of certification, certificate management, label use, and supervision duties. The measures specify the responsibilities of all relevant parties to provide clear guidance for the sector.
To date, China's green product certification catalog covers 122 product categories closely related to daily consumption, including electronic appliances, furniture, construction materials, express packaging, and textiles.
Nearly 40,000 valid certificates have been issued to over 8,000 enterprises, according to SAMR data.
