TASHKENT, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- A branch campus of China's Liaoning Normal University was inaugurated Monday in the Uzbek city of Khiva.

Visiting the facility on the same day, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan is committed to developing higher education in line with international standards, expanding cooperation with leading universities abroad and training qualified specialists in modern fields.

The establishment of the Liaoning Normal University branch campus is of great significance to Uzbekistan-China educational cooperation, he said, adding that the Uzbek government will provide full support for its development.

The campus was jointly established by Liaoning Normal University; Uzbekistan's Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation; and Urgench State University. The campus covers over 8,800 square meters and is designed to accommodate up to 2,000 students.

According to the Uzbek president's website, the campus will initially offer four undergraduate programs: international Chinese language education, tourism management, international business and artificial intelligence. The campus plans to enroll 160 undergraduate students in 2026.
