Clued-in | Guilty of being anything

On July 31, the United States once again brandished the sanctions stick, adding over 40 Chinese companies — including well-known brands such as Septwolves, Synear Food, and ChaCha — to an import blacklist over so-called "forced labor" in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Unlike previous occasions, the targets this time are not high-end chips, but rather common items on dining tables—dumplings and sunflower seeds—as well as everyday clothing. These products, popular among consumers in both China and the United States and once the very things that greased the wheels of trade, have now been grandly stamped with the baseless "forced labor" label.
Nothing says "defending competitiveness" quite like declaring war on dumplings, melon seeds, and clothing. The sheer absurdity of the move has long since left the realm of normal trade policy and entered pure farce. By turning routine commerce into a political circus, Washington isn't just trampling market rules—it's openly insulting the intelligence of consumers in both countries.
With this latest performance, the U.S. is cheerfully tossing what's left of its own seriousness straight into the trash.
