China activates emergency response for rainstorm-hit Jilin

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- China's national commission for disaster prevention, reduction and relief activated a Level-IV national disaster relief emergency response for northeast China's Jilin Province on Wednesday, after the region was hit by heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon Bavi, the Ministry of Emergency Management announced.

A working team has been dispatched to the disaster-hit areas to assess the situation and assist local authorities in ensuring the basic needs of affected residents, the ministry said.

On Tuesday, the commission activated a Level-IV national disaster relief emergency response for northeast China's Liaoning Province, which was also hit by rainstorms and flooding.

A total of 500,000 woven bags, 100,000 square meters of filament geotextile, and 150 sets of patrol and inspection lights have been allocated to support Liaoning in flood control and emergency rescue operations.

China has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level I being the most severe.
