URUMQI, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Dabancheng District of Urumqi, the capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, now runs entirely on new energy, according to local authorities.

All local electricity is now generated from new energy sources, following the recent commissioning of a wind farm and the beginning of its power generation, according to the State Grid Urumqi electric power supply company.

Dubbed "China's Wind Valley," the district has an annual wind energy reserve of 25 billion kilowatt-hours

Rich in wind and solar power resources, Xinjiang is one of the country's leading regions in terms of new energy development, with a total installed new energy capacity exceeding 50 million kilowatts.
