Intelligent technology makes Hangzhou Asian Para Games more accessible
HANGZHOU, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Intelligent technologies designed for athletes with disabilities are making an impression at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
China's para swimmer Xu Jialing, who clinched seven golds at the Jakarta Asian Para Games in 2018, lit the cauldron with an intelligent bionic arm, making it an unforgettable moment of the opening ceremony on Sunday evening.
"Although I had adapted to living with one arm, the bionic arm has given me the ability to hold a torch with both hands and light the flame, which is pretty cool. It also makes my daily life easier, like holding water bottles and twisting off closures," Xu said.
Cai Qionghui, the torchbearer who concluded the torch relay with an intelligent guide dog, said that she felt more at ease during the relay as she didn't have to consider the feeling of a real guide dog.
"The use of intelligent guide dogs looks funny, but it gives a possibility for visually impaired people to travel without their own dogs," said Yang Jinkui, secretary general of the Chinese delegation for the Asian Para Games, at a press conference on Tuesday.
"To provide a more inclusive service for athletes with different disabilities, using technology is the best option," Yang added.
