Passenger trips surge during China's "golden week" holiday period

BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- A daily average of 57.28 million passenger trips were made during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday that ended on Friday, surging 57.1 percent from the National Day holiday last year.
From Sept. 29 to Oct. 6, the number of passenger trips came in at 458 million, the Ministry of Transport said Saturday.
Of the total, 141 million trips were made by rail, with the number of daily average trips soaring 158 percent year on year to top 17.64 million.
Air trips averaged 2.14 million during the holiday period, skyrocketing 195 percent from a year earlier.
Road trips made during the period hit 290 million, while the number of waterway trips amounted to 10.18 million, according to the ministry.
