In Changsha, a new car is assembled in less than two minutes and, for a new excavator, it takes only five minutes. Changsha also boasts a host of No 1 in China’s intelligent equipment industry, such as the first intelligent manufacturing and production line of rail traffic, the first efficient photovoltaic cell digital workshop and the first national research and development platform in 3D printing.

Intelligent manufacturing, characterized by digital, networked and smart, has become the main stream of the development of Changsha’s manufacturing industry, while intelligent equipment lies at the core of Changsha’s intelligent manufacturing, and is also the key sector to build Changsha into China’s intelligent manufacturing center.

A host of enterprises, including Sany, Zoomlion, Truking, Gree and Farsoon, are becoming the leading force of Changsha’s intelligent manufacturing industry. The city is gaining growth momentum in electrical engineering and apparatus, engineering machinery, automobile and components, heavy mining machinery, new energy vehicles, industrial robots, pharmaceutical machinery, marine engineering equipment, high-tech shipbuilding and aerospace equipment. All these are adding fuel to Changsha’s implementation of the strategy of innovation, leading, openness and rise.

In 2017, Changsha released Opinions on Revitalizing Changsha’s Industry and Real Economy which proposed to set up special supporting and industrial funds for the development of intelligent manufacturing, strengthen support for national key platforms, promote Changsha Cloud and build Industry Cloud. Early in this year, Changsha released Action Plan of Building a National Intelligent Manufacturing Center 2018-2020, which proposed to build a leading pilot area of industrial intelligentialization in three stages. Changsha, in alliance with Zhuzhou, Xiangtan and Hengyang, to apply to the State Council for building a pilot.

Changsha is home to nearly a thousand equipment manufacturing enterprises. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, these enterprise has established an open, inclusive and balanced economic cooperation framework through investment, joint venture and cooperation. For example, Zoomlion has set up production bases in night countries, such as Belarus, and R&D center, market network and service system in over 70 countries and regions.
